Has anyone been?
Is it worth going, and what's the chances of coming across a snake, as I'm shit scared of them. I get if I go looking for them, I'll see them but sitting on the beach watching the world go by will I encounter many. I'm looking at going to Guanacaste.

I was on the Pacific coast and it didn't rain. Rained a bit in the San Jose and when I was on top of the volcano near San Jose it rained sleet, blooming cold up there with the wind, but also blooming spectacular.
Definitely recommend Costa Rica.

I think that it is one of the most beautiful places in the world if you like spotting wildlife, possibly only bettered by South Africa I'm experience anyway.
I'm a bit like you about snakes and saw loads in Arenal, particularly when I went on night Safari. There's something about seeing them moving slowly in their natural habitat that takes the fear factor out of it.
They are very varied, particularly in size that meant a guide had to point them out to me unless one crossed your path. The guide would say do you see the snake? I'd be searching around for a big one and he'd point it out and it would be tiny, wrapped around a little branch
Then he would say'do you see that snake'? and I would be looking for a tiny one and he'd say 'in the hollow of that tree' and suddenly you'd see a pit viper, the biggest fuck-off snake you're ever likely to see. He' then say 'yes, she's been there for three days now, she's trying to digest the wild pig that she ate whole.
I thought that it was great! And I saw loads of Toucans! And Sloths and a hundred different animals.
I can't recommend CR enough.

Just up the road ( well a few hours ) from me in Bocas , so obviously been more than a few times .
It’s a lovely place with a great climate & generally laid back folks .
Caribbean side is more surfy Rasta stylee & the Pacific is more high end with resort towns like Jaco & Tamarindo .
Still there are plenty of wild like parks dotted throughout .

Rained once in the rainforest (shock) in a week.
Went to the coast and didn't see a single cloud in 8 days.

Went there Feb 2019 for our honeymoon - Fantastic place.
Spent a week in the rainforest near the Arenal Volcano /La Fortuna then a week on the beach in Jaco.
Zip lining. river safari, waterfall abseiling all great fun.
Saw plenty of crocs, sloth, toucans, monkeys etc and one snake (Fer De Lance) although this was pointed out by a guide, would never have spotted it on my own, and it soon fucked off into the bushes.
I wouldn't worry about the snakes, rare that you'll see one unless you're specifically looking for them, I certainly wouldn't let it put you off going.
Hoping to get back over there in a coupe of years

I went just before covid end of 2019. Really enjoyed it. Best part is the national parks and animals, amazing monkeys, sloths, deer loads of stuff. Beaches are good, no snakes, but monkeys looking for a meal. In the rivers yes plenty of crocodiles. People nice and friendly, but yes quiet, relaxing, pura vida.

Just don't do any zip lining while you're there. Bloke from my offices HR dept broke his neck 3rd day he was in Costa Rica. He didn't even get to see any beaches, or snakes

Rains a lot. Was a toss up between CR and Mexico in Jan and I chose Mexico as no tests to get in.
Bit quiet by all accounts.

Had my honeymoon in CR in 2014. Very enjoyable, and no, no snakes (unless a guide pointed them out to you).
Couldn't find a Toucan for love nor money either!
Someone I know part owns a guest house in Tamarindo. Once ex lawyer my mate used to date (was smokin hot yank girl) who binned her career to go live on the beach there.

I haven’t been but know a few people that have, they said that it’s a beautiful country, some beautiful beaches.(They went there for the surfing)
They didn’t mention snakes but there were Crocodiles.
